HOW DO I GET SCHEDULED FOR A ROAD TEST?
Road test are scheduled in the order that they are received, if you want to take a lesson same day it could take 6 to 8 weeks if you would like to meet the Instructor and use the car only, your wait time will be shorter, if you would like to be picked up at home there is $10.00 fee for this service.
How old do I have to be to start taking driving lessons?
You must be at least 16 years old and have a valid NYS issued Learner's Permit.
Do I need to take the 5-hr pre-licensing class?
Yes, everyone is required to take the 5-hr Pre-Licensing course offered at both of our office locations, You cannot schedule and take a road test without receiving your completed certificate. if you are under the age of 18 and choose to take the 5 hour class instead of the drivers ed program, upon passing your road test you will not be permitted to drive at all in the 5 boros until you reach the age of 18.
How many lessons will I need to get my license?
That varies person to person. Some students will require more attention and some less. Your driving instructor will evaluate you on your first lesson and estimate your needs.
Is Island Driving School an Officially licensed school?
Yes, we are a New York State recognized, licensed and fully accredited driving school. All our instructors are NYS Licensed and Certified.
Where will I drive on my first lesson?
You will drive on quiet streets to start; then if your Instructor feels you are ready, you'll gradually drive on busier roadways. We will never push you sooner than you're ready.
Do all the Instructor's cars have a dual brake?
Yes, all our late model cars are equipped with a brake pedal on the passenger side insuring safe, comfortable learning.
Are your Instructors knowledgeable about the road test sites in Staten Island?
All our Instructors have been to each of the 5 - S.I. road test sites hundreds, if not thousands of times. We have also been to each Brooklyn sites many, many times. Rest assured, you'll be in good hands.
Do you teach all ages?
Yes, we teach from age 16 and up. Our eldest person to date was 82 years young. Many people who have their driver's license, but haven't driven in some time, just need a refresher lesson to bring their confidence back. We're very patient with everyone behind the wheel.
What is Driver's Education?
Driver's Education is a program is designed for students who are 16 and 17 that want to obtain their license by the age of 17, we provide driving Instruction for two high schools Yeshiva of Staten Island and Notre Dame Academy located at 134 Howard Avenue, to obtain information or to register please contact those schools directly.
